painting the block of a 22rtec

should i paint my block if no why, or if yes, what color would be the best. I plan on using a good quality paint that is for engines im thinking a kawasaki green. p lease give me some more input as to what you guys do.thank you.

ps im sorry if i offended anyone on yota tech i will never say a bad word about anyone any more.

I painted mine the original black color but I hear that red adds like 5 HP.

If you paint it Red with Black/silver Type R on the side you get something like 17.985982347943873498753 more hp...



I am rebuilding mine in the spring and I think I am going to paint it silver.. why.. i have no clue

Actually according to my heat transfer text, black will radiate way the most heat.

Red Does Add 5HP.....




Just clean and degrease first.

I painted mine ford blue, it looked great on the stand but you can't see much with it in the truck. Black is better for heat but a light color would make it easier to find leaks.

POR makes a pretty decent engine paint.
I think the only thing better is to powdercoat the dang thing, like a marine block...

OMG is that where the fuel filter is on a 22re? I've heard it was hard to get to, but what where they thinking? Nice paint BTW

I like that color alot! Abuddy of mine had some flip flop left over and he painted his block,heads and valve covers. That was different.

yep, and dont forget this big thing that covers it, the intake plenum... oh and the starter from below... yeah, a PIA to change.. .but if you pull the starter its almost bearable...almost

can someone describe where the fuel filter is in relation to the oil filter? ...wait....I think I got it...is "northwest" of the oil filter? I was curious about where it was...I have never seen mine!

POR paint, gloss black. Intake is powdercoated:






I'll brag about the head while I'm here.. notice the stainless hardware (~$10-15): & tap in the fuel rail for a fuel pressure gauge:
