Like Schnayke said, if it spins more that a revolution it's time to replace it. Driving @35+mph should have enough airflow to keep it cool regardless of the bad fan clutch though.

My gasoline truck doesn't even get to full temp this time of year within 5 min, are you sure your actually overheating?
Before you said the lower and upper rad hoses are hot, did you flush the radiator?

Are you using coolant or straight water?

You have anyone close by that could put a 2nd set of eyes on it? Does air bubble out of the rad with the cap removed and engine running?

In post #17 you said you felt the radiator hoses and the top was hot, bottom was cold. The thermostat is either not opening, or you have a blockage, or the water pump impeller is rusted away or broken off (I've seen that happen)

That is correct. Top is hot and bottom isn't. im seriously debating just ordering radiator/waterpump both to fix the problem. I didn't see any gunk or anything when I drained the radiator last night though. I don't see any kind of leaking going on either.

Top hose should be hot, bottom you should be able to hold onto with bare hands. Don't just throw parts at it unless your rolling in money.
Kinda hard to do in a apartment complex, but to test the water pump remove the upper hose and let the engine run till the thermostat opens. You should have flow and flow should increase with RPMs. Keep your rad full of water when doing this it can empty the system faster than you think. Do this test with nothing but water in the system incase it wasn't obvious.

as I do this it should ideally spit water out, correct? should the thermostat open within 5 mins? that's as long as I let it run, by then it is steaming from the radiator. I will try this today when I get home (if weather allows). if I don't get any flow out of my rad then I can assume pump is bad?

I usually drain the system. Full with water, remove the upper hose, stick a water hose in the radiator with the water on. Let it run, when the thermostat opens water should begin to flow out of the upper hose, if it doesn't even when the engine is revved the water pump isn't pumping.

Or, remove the thermostat, put the housing back on without it, fill it up, start the engine, and look for flow in the radiator with the cap off. I used to do that on diesels, if a bunch of air bubbles show up it had a head gasket blown or worse.

Ready for this?..

i got home today and was getting ready to start the truck and feel the radiator for hot/cold spots..... i got underneath the truck to look for a way to remove the grille and noticed something funny.. the alternator didnt have a belt on it. so.. i follow the path that the belt would be on and wouldnt ya know... water pump is on the same belt..........

well i havent replaced it yet but that is obviously the problem. i havent had the daylight to see it.. crazy. looks like a weekend project for me.

That would be a give away right there.

Your charge light hasn't been on because the alternator wasn't charging?
