Overdrive Flashing continuously

Overdrive Flashing continuously
95 4runner 3.0L V6 SR5 Automatic
Check engine light came on recently and while checking the code by shorting the terminals etc, the Overdrive light blinked continuously with no pauses. The Overdrive light does not come on while driving normally, only seeing this while in the code check sequence. Anyone encountered this before and understand its meaning?

The light you were watching is the "overdrive-off" light. Which comes on, even while driving normally, when you turn overdrive off.
And when overdrive is on (so the lamp is not illuminated), it doubles as the transmission diagnostic code readout. Congratulations; your transmission passed diagnosis with no codes.
