Opinions on stripes

Okay, silly and vain question, but here goes...

I'm not willing yet to buy a whole $300+ stripe kit from http://www.jamesdeancreations.com/toyota.htm , but i may buy just the hood decal from one of the years. I drive an 88, but I don't know if I like the 84-86 boxy decal, the 87-88 truck decal, 87-88 4Runner decal, the 89 truck decal, or 89 4Runner decal the best. My truck is red with a relatively new and shiny paint job.

What are your opinions? Which design is the sweetest?

I had a place re-create my orininal stripes on my 87 from a picture of it from when it was new. it was around $100 i think, but I can't remember. I love my stripes. I didn't get the ones for the hood cause they were kinda lame, but the ones on the side look great. I think without them it just looks too plain.

I like the stripes. I have the zebra stripes from 88 (I think they had them in 87 as well). I wouldn't take em off for nothing.

Defintaly get the stripes!! It may be worth having them painted on, then they won't peel and look like crap overt time. That's what I'm going to to with my 2WD 84 SR5 anyway.

I'd just paint the truck flat black, but if you insist...........I am sure that sign shops will do it for you. I have had custom stikers made from a sign shop in the local flea market.

Good ideas guys. I'll call the body shop in this area sometime and see if they can paint some on for me. The only thing is that if it's only painted, it might be hard to get that fading effect. But I'm not sure, I don't do any autobody stuff

I've always thought it would be cool to put the 81-83 strips on my 94. Little retro look.

IMO, the stripe for the '86 SR5 4x4's is the nicest looking one Toyota ever produced. Also, it was only offered for one year whereas all the others were used for two years(other than the '89 4runner). I think that makes it kinda unique.

I don't think the price is too bad if you want stripes, but for me I would prefer no stripes.

Does anyone know of a product to remove the original decals? My 4runner originally came from Texas and sat in the hot sun often. The decals are baked on at this point, they are not discolored any more than usual but I would like to remove them. Any suggestions?

Search and you shall find. I believe 4crawler's site also has some suggestions.

i reall like the decals for the 89 4runner i think they look the best and if i were ever to put stripes on mine i would go with that one.
EDIT:mine is also black so it may look better/worse on red.
