i'd be willing to bet sticking a pipe or something through the sprocket to keep it from turning while trying to loosen the bolt to get the sprocket off...
???
that also explains "Oops?" instead of "WTF?" for a thread title.

I'd put my money on trying to pry it off the end of the camshaft

maybe it's a prototype sprocket for a dual cam 22r head...
... and they had to take that part out so the other sprocket would have clearance?

Not the camshaft bolt. That's not all that tight. I'm guessing the crank bolt.

Yeah....you can see in one of the larger holes a chunk that was gouged out from sticking....probably....a screwdriver in there.

Improper use of tools can lead to broken tools, parts, or injury. Or any combination of those three.

It wasnt me who broke it, it came out of an engine I bought on craigslist for $50.
I'm gonna have to go with the screwdriver theory though, getting it off the camshaft. Definite "WTF?!" moment when I pulled the valve cover though.
