One lucky SOB

A friend showed up with his '90 Hilux double cab. I swapped a low milage 3L diesel and added a turbo and intercooler some 3 years back into his vehicle. He drove 50.000 km with this setup.
Says he parked the car, came back in 5 min., fired her up and heard a terrible scream from under the hood. He opened it up and wreckoned the noise came from the engine.
He drove straight to my place (some 20 miles) so I could listen to it.
Now: HOW MUCH LUCK DO THE IGNORANT HAVE???
This is what I found:

This is the belt:

The cause: cam belt tension spring (right upper side, got so hot it melted through the plastic)

Very lucky I'd say, that belt looks like it could have gone anytime, and taken the engine with it
