Old shifter seat

Well i finally got around to changing my shifter seat and bushing, and when I got inside, i realized that the old seat had completely disintegrated, and there was just some small fragments left. My question is...are all those little pieces that fell into the tranny going to hurt anything, or would they have just came out the last time i changed the fluid?
Thanks

OK cool, yeah it made it shift real nice. Before the change, it would go like halfway into gears and do all sorts of weird stuff. The one problem that persists is that its sometimes hard to get it into reverse, like once in awhile i have to put it into 5th and then into reverse to get it to click in, what could that be?
