is the actual spark plug (the electrode) covered in oil... like inside the combustion chamber or just the outside?

If the electrode is coated probably rings or valve stem seals, does it blow blue smoke?

outside, my 10 bucks is on the valve cover seal it'self, might be folded over or hanging over at that location. which is extremely common anywhere on the valve cover. Especially with those silicone rubber seals, they are so maluable that it can be hard sometimes to get them perfect all the way around. I found using some rtv in a few locations just to hold it into the cover while installing.

goodluck

either way, you'll probably make it to colorado fine... if it were coolant, id say no, you wont make it fine lol

ya its not on the electrode or threads more at where the washer is one the spark plug and the hex of the plug

umm ya it does look like its at that valve cover (the rectangular box) because there is other traces of oil

Question
Valve cover - is the rectangular box with the oil cap on it

also to fix it i need to take it off and re gasket it

Would this fix my fluxuating low oil presure?

thanks for the reply

Yes the rectangular box you speak of is the valve cover, basically the upper most part of the engine..

If you have fluctuating oil pressure and its leaking from there putting a new gasket on the VC could fix your problem, provided there is no other leaks or something going on inside the engine

It's easy, just take your time and remember where all the hoses and lines go. It's kinda tight in the back so your going to have to play with it a little.

If you're not up to it or pressed for time, just take an extra quart of oil or two with you out to Colorado and keep the level good. A leaking valve cover isn't going to hurt anything (knock on wood)

replacing the valve cover gaskets on the 3vze will entail removing your intake assemblies. do you have a trusted mech/friend that can help with this? you might want to check the stickied fsm links at the top of the page to get an idea of how involved this will become.

well one

my idle low pressure is an 1/8 inch from no bar while idle
i have an oil pressure gauge but havent put enough effort to buy the fitting to convert the npt

also
Im up to any task repairing my car, so i will try and use the fsm and do it myself when it come to the valve cover re gasket

im a veteren when it comes to legos, i feel a car is the same

but i barely leak oil it leaks very small from the valve cover and also have a leak from the rear seal at the transmission

so im gonna hold off on it
- LEGOS for life, ive been know to rock and erector set here and there also
