Question oil pump removed, but wait!

Guys I just remove d the oil pump on 90 4runner 22re and I thought I wouk find broken gear or something but of looks good and moves freely. What I did discover were broken pieces of metal and plastic, I'm thinking its the timing chain dampers the broke, does anyone know if the dampers are made of plastic and if the pieces of metal and plastic could have clogged the oil pump pick up screen enough to not slow oil to pass any advise is welcomed and appreciated.

The guides are made of plastic, and I'm willing to bet the metal you found was aluminum? Thats part of the timing cover.

Take the timing cover off and inspect for damage ASAP.

It can block the pickup screen.

But you never mentioned anything about no oil in the filter.

Sorry that was on a prior thread. The story is that my 4runnee was blowing excessive smoke from dipstick tube, I was advised to change the oil and when I did I found that my oil filter was clean from the inside with no sign of oil ever being there and the truck had driven for three days so I figured it was theoil pump and after a few suggestions from yotatech I decided to change my oil pump and as I removed the oil pan that's when I found the bits of plastic and metal.

if you ran it for three days with no oil pressure (oil filter dry) you will have internal damage, thats probably where most of the shavings came from. IMO take off a rod and main cap and inspect the bearings before putting it back together
