Accept no substitutes. You don't want to eff around with something as important as an oil pump. Click on Toyota Hot Licks icon at the top.

Call engnbldr, see if they still sell that hi-flow "turbo" oil pump for the 22RE. I put one on mine a couple of years ago, and the oil pressure gauge is a full click higher all the time, good stuff!

Ted will be honest with you, last time I checked the turbo pumps were not available through him..
Be careful with other vendors - many vendors interchange the 22re and 22rte pumps. They are different - the 22rte pumps have a different pitch and are designed to be used with the 22rte front cover (they will work with both). Here's a photo of a turbo pump vs non-turbo - notice the difference in the number of holes in the crescent shape:

A 22re pump is more than adequate for a 22re and I don't think high volume buys you much. If you want a little more oil pressure, shim the by-pass. You can buy the ~$145 pump from DOA or LC, or buy just the shim as offered by LC.. You could even make it yourself with a drill press and a tap.
A higher volume pump doesn't do much for you if you don't need the volume.
Might check the FS section.. someone I know might have both a new 22RE melling pump forsale and a used DOA pump with the high-pressure bypass. :-)
I'm now running a true high volume turbo pump, but I feed the turbo with a 4AN line that does flow a sigificant volume of oil on the outside of the motor.

if the front crank seal is leaking. Does that mean you probably need a new pump?
Also is the pump right behind the main seal or is there another reason your replacing your pump?
