Oil Leak Stopped?

So, I recently changed the wieght of my oil from 10Wsomething to 10W30, and my oil leak has stopped. My dip stick says it is at the same place it was when I first filled it up (a couple weeks ago) and it seems to be running a lot better. Is this even possible? Has this ever happened to any of you before?

I run synthetic. Usually for about the first month after an oil change, regardless of km's, it seems like my dipstick stays where it is. Usually 1000 miles give or take roughly say. Then after that I start loosing a little bit of oil. Watch it for an entire change.

Yeah, it's very much possible.

I've even had vehicles go from burning 2 quarts of oil every 1500 miles to not burning a drop every 4,000 just by using a different brand of oil. What makes it even crazier was that both oils were the exact same weight.

Just because your dipstick is showing your oil to be the same level doesn't mean it isn't leaking or burning oil. That oil showing "full" could be a mixture of oil and fuel. The only way to know for sure is to have the oil analyzed.

I was using Penzoil, but then I switched to the generic brand at the local grocery store (Western Family or something).

I read a similar post on Pirate a while back and one of the bigger names (or at least a more frequent poster) over there replied that, in their words, the heavy weight oil was likely causing a build up of parafin on the rings resulting in blow by and that they should switch over to 10w30.
Assuming the poster knew what he was talking about, perhaps the change to 30 has had an effect.

keep in mind that a lot of times some of the stuff in oil "cooks off" over time.
