oil burning

I have a 95 runner with a 3.0. It was supposedly rebuilt about 25,000 miles ago. It burns 1 quart of oil every 1000 or so miles. I am going to have a compression and a leak down done on it. Is there anything else that I can check that would cause this?

Pcv valve could do it to, other than that. compression and leak down test will tell you for sure whats going down inside your cylinders.
