Oh great another vibration thread!!

I hope you can confirm what I think is my problem.

About a month ago I started hearing a swish-swish noise when backing up... which lead me to replace my u-joints. One cap had rust instead of grease...

After replacing I had a bit of vibration above 40mph. Power on or off it didn't matter. I've been thinking it was my rear bearings but now I remember that one of the clips on the new U-joint was a lot thicker than the others.

Would that difference thickness be enough to be the cause of it? or I'm I just trying to get out of changing my bearings...

PS I hope everyone is having a Happy Thanksgiving!

maybe, and I'm probably wrong, the weight of the one thicker clip is causing a vibration? Just taking a guess.

I'm thinking that the thicker clip is keeping the u joint from being centered... so the piviot point was moved to one side by a tiny amount causing the vibration.

I'm thinking something simpler:

When you put the driveshaft back in, you got it out of phase. Did you mark the driveshaft and pinion flange before you took it out?

I put a zip tie on it but it got broken off while convincing the good u-joint to come out...

Tomorrow I'm going to replace the clip and rotate the mounts. Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it turns out!
