noise when releasing the clutch

noise when releasing the clutch
First off I have a 92 pickup, 3L 5speed.
When I release the clutch I get a squealing noise(kind of like a belt squeal but more metallic sounding).
Only during engagement, when the clutch is out fully it is perfectly quiet.
Also when driving and I match revs perfectly between gears no noise either. It seems only if their is different rpm loads placed on the clutch.
I was told it was inside the transmission, that seems kind of odd to me since it does not do it all the time.
If anyone has any ideas that would be super helpful.
Thanks,
-Eric
