ok, I get the oh so common click when i turn the key. After much searching I replaced the starter contacts and had the starter and battery tested both are working great also the clutch switch is good. What else can cause the click? I get two clicks one for the clutch and then the starter clicks, but no start...

Bad ground maybe? Try clipping a booster cable to your negative battery then clamp it onto the starter housing. Then give it a try. Also if the gear does not go all the way out you get no contact. Try loosening the starter and try.

 

EFI fuse?

 

you said the started bench tested fine?

have you manually rotated the motor to make shure it didnt cease up?

 

corosion in the wires? i'd try jumping it as stated above

 

I had the same problem. I jumped it with the battery cables and found a bad ground. Try this first as it's quick and easy.

 

Well, i know that the starter is good, and the battery is good and i tested the ignition switch and that was good. So i replaced all positive and negative wires from the battery, and it's been a week since i have had the no start problem.... fingers crossed

 

Yep, I fixed mine with a new positive cable and haven't had a problem for a month or more. Sounds like you found the same thing.

It's happened 2 or 3 more times since battery cable replacement. Ok time for a list of all that is replaced, and checked

Starter contacts replaced
Starter replaced
Battery cables replaced
Battery replaced
ignition switch replaced
Clutch switch checked and OK
all ground wires replaced and grounds cleaned
rear defrosted wires checked and soldered back on window
rear window relay checked.


What else is their to replace? i was able to check the voltage going to the starter when under click condition i have only like 4 or 5 volts going to starter, not enough. So what would cause this condition? While starter only shows 4 volts battery shows 12.8 volts steady.

On a side note i am getting good a compression starts

 

Did you check your fuses? One blown fuse could mess you up.

 

if the voltage is too low theres a bad connection somewhere

 

Next time you get the clicky clicky, take a hammer and lightly tap the side of the starter a few times. Well, a little firmer than lightly, but not too hard to break the case.


If it starts you still have a bad starter.

 

I tryed the starter thing before and it made no diffrence. However when autozone tested my starter they thought it might be bad, so i just replaced the whole thing

All my fuses look ok. What connections do i need to be looking at for dirt and such?

 

its hard to test a starter off the truck ,it may spin fine with no load ,but might not be worth a flip under load ,its 2 differant things.
