They rarely get used and just take space away from the center console. They also add a lot of extra connections and plumbing to the cooling system.
I removed mine. The plumbing and valves were corroded and expensive to replace. I don't think it was ever used.

The rear heat in my 2002 is awesome... I can sweat out the rear passengers if I keep it on high.
In my '93, the P.O. had the hoses disconnected, so I suspect that the core or lines were leaking. I wish it worked though. I may eventually take a closer look at it to see if I can fix it.

I have a '94 4runner. I pulled out the pipes in the engine compartment, and the pipes that run from the engine compartment to the rear seat heater. I looped a section of hose to seal off the rear heater core. As of this writing, I haven't pulled out the console parts. I'll have to take a look at the FSM to see how much of a hassle it it. The parts are all in great shape, my 4runner is a clean California truck.
In other words, if you are looking for the parts, we might be able to work out a deal. PM me if you are interested.
