no oil pressure

ok so i got a new SR5 guage cluster off craigs list for 20.00, i also got the oil pressure sending unit that goes with it, before i installed the sending unit my oil pressure always sat at 0 but after installing the sending unit when i turn the key to the acc position the oil pressure guage will jump up to what i figure is probably about right, But when i start the truck it drops back down to 0 also guage does not seem to move no matter the RPM's when engine is on. Is there another way to test to make sure that i have oil pressure? i really hope this is just a bad sending unit.

Did you get a new sending unit? or just an old one that came with it?
I am confused about your pressuere reading at 0 before installing the sending unit. Did you use the old idiot light sending unit with the new gauges for a while? Was your oil light on for a while?
xplain, please.

sorry, i got the old used one so it might not work. I unplugged the idiot light before installing the new guages. Once i installed the new/used sending unit is when it started to show the correct (i think) oil pressure in the acc position.

sure you actually have oil moving around in there? lol man i had a great experience on my 1st car, a 88 celica. i was going 65 on the freeway w/ cruise on. suddenly started hearing clicking that got louder and louder till it started shaking that car. i noticed the oil gauge was at zero and then the car stalled. ended up shooting a connecting rod right out the block...well that sucked by now i got a 4runner!!!

You won't have any oil pressure with the key in the acc position.
You only have oil pressure when the engine is running.

You could hook up a mechanical guage to test your pressure.
