no horn

I bought an 86 4 runner and there is no horn or any loose wires for the horn. I need a horn to pass safety inspection any ideas on what I can do?

run a wire from the horn to a switch then add a fuse and hook to a power source . Or start tracing the power to see where you loose it .There is a good chance it is the pin between the steering wheel and the column is wore down.

X2 on what swampfox said, my 87 horn stopped working because of that damn pin, so I put a non locking spring loaded push button I got from radio shack for a horn button, didn't need it for any kind of inspection just wanted it. I mounted on the dash next to steering wheel in the long removable pop in and out panel that normally if so equipped would have had the cruise control button and indicator light I think...

Ps. It's also weird to retrain yourself to hit the new horn button instead of middle of steering wheel to get the attention of other idiot drivers :}LOL

If you pull your steering wheel cover off, you can check the small contacts of the horn on the plate. Over time, the contacts goes bad and all you have to do is gently sand them. Worked to get my horn going again.
