What hoses are you talking about, the heater hoses or the radiator hoses ?. The first place to start is checking the thermostat, either test the one you have to see if its opening or just replace it, also make sure there is no air in the cooling system.

The first place to check is the v-belt to the water pump is installed and that it and the water pump pulley are turning with the engine.
Then check if the heater blows hot air - the heater bypasses the t-stat so it should get hot even if the t-stat has failed. If it doesn't get hot, the water pump may not be operating or the passages / hoses / heater core may be plugged. If it does get hot, there's a pretty good chance the water pump is working and its time to check the t-stat and upper / lower radiator hoses as well as the radiator itself.
You can remove the t-stat and operate the engine without it just to verify that coolant is circulating through the radiator. As for the hoses, verify that the inner linings have not separated from the outer casings; if that happens, particularly on the lower hose, the lining can block coolant flow through the hose.
