hmm... it tried to start for about 3 seconds but didn't...
hondafreak- can you jumper the fuel pump so it runs constantly and try starting it again?

and I don't know about the asian slant on the cam but I know that my bud's 76 vw scirocco would not start if you followed the factory manual- it took a tooth or two on the cam belt to get it right- because the people that wrote the manual didn't take into account the tilt of the engine when installed and only said point the mark straight up.

 

My trick is use a peice of wire and move the piston up and down.
If you put your hand over the throttle body, it should suck your hand thru the opening,if its blowing back of coures valves,cam timing,or somthing is off.

 

IT STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


We played around with the timing, and I can't tell you where the marks are, nor do I care, It's running, and after I work out a few little bugs, like all the stupid sealer that is clogging the radiator, making it run hot, I think it'll be just fine!!!

Glad to here you got it running. It was fun fallowing this at least I am not the only one that has problems sometimes. Better him than me I always say.

I hate that radiator stopleak crap, seems like it does more harm than good. Get that junk out and the whole thing will probably run better.

Crawdad, the one on the far east side.When I had my run going to waco Tx,the golden rule was my place to stop,beats the truck stops.

 

Thorw the radiator away.You just spent a week beating your brains out on the starting problem.No sense in having to replace the gasket a second time.

 

This is really good advice, actually. Think all the stopleak is why the original headgasket failed?

Rockauto.com lists them for $85 + shipping for an aluminum core Proliance brand.

 

So what did you do to get it started? I was just about to suggest that you unbolt the exhaust to see if that would help.

 

Dont get him stated, he tried that.

are you sure the cams and crank are timed together correctly it sounds to me like you are firing on the exhaust stroke.

we're all now waiting to find out what was done to get it started.

 

Abecedarin,Going to take the bosh O2 out. replaced with a Denso,magnaflow cat,get back with you on the high voltage on the O2 later. Time to go fishing.

Hey guys, sorry I've been away so long, for some reason I didn't get an email saying there were new posts.....


Anyway, The trick to getting it started was just playing with the timing, but, it's still off...

I dunno which way to go with it, I had it running "good" but I could hear some serious detonation, so, i moved the cam gear another tooth to the right...

Little to no throttle response now...

Hooked up the timing light with the jumper in the diagnostic link so i could set the ignition timing to 5 deg BTDC like it said to on the sticker on the inside of the hood...

George was gonna take it out on the road and see how it did, but, that's when he noticed the poor throttle response. Something is definitely off, the poor thing sounds like a honda with a cold air intake when you hit the gas LMAO

So, annyway, now we gotta wait for it to cool down so i can play with the timing some more...

Oh, and BTW I put a new radiator in it today

and, the stop leak wasn't for the radiator, it was for the head gasket lol George has been putting that crap in there religiosity for a very long time

I'll check back tonight, and also let you guys know if there's any progress.
