Newbie introduction with 1990 Pickup

Hey to all!
I have been a long time lurker here as I have been hunting for a Yota for quite a while and this site it full of great info. I finally pulled the trigger on a 1990 Pickup about a month ago. I hunted quite a bit for one that was rust free, which is sort of hard to find around here. This one only has a little spot on the left rear fender. The frame is perfect. It is a 3VZE 4X4 5Spd wits 213,000 miles on the clock. Being a poor college student I needed something that I could commute with besides my Power Stroke because $160 fillups are killing me. So far I love the truck. About a week after I bought it the upper idler pulley on the timing belt took a dump so I replaced that as well as the belt, water pump, and tensioner. I also built a new rear bumper because the one on it was rusted to the point I wasn't comfortable pulling a lawn mower trailer with it. Anyhow I will put up some pics if I can get photobucket to work right.

Body is pretty clean. You should see about raising that rear bumper up a little. Looks a little low.

Welcome to yota tech! Be sure to fill in your location when you get a chance to. Its under the user control panel at the top

Thanks drmix! The reason that the bumper is that low is because the truck has I believe a 4inch body lift if I measured correctly as well as it is on 31 inch tires. That bumper is mounted 3 inches higher than where the stock one was when I bought it. I wanted it lower so that I didn't have to have a huge drop receiver when towing. I hate them. Plus the step is about the right height for getting into the bed. Thanks again and I will fill out my location.

welcome to YOTATECH.

where ya from?

at 1st the bumper looks odd and then i looked again and think it looks awesome. it is a bit low........notch out the area just below the tailgate and mount it straight-on. I had one made that I will be mounting very soon the same way. my current bumper hangs low and hits on departure.

Doug Thorley makes a set of headers #505-C for around $600.......doing a rebuild of my son's 88 4runner with a 3vze and we got the headers for it.

did you say you made that bumper???

Thanks for all of the replies guys! I may move the bumper up, but until I get some more time it is good the way it is. I mow lawns on the side and I really needed the hitch so I just tossed that one together. I may build another later even. 92Toy I built the bumper from some scrap steel we had laying around. It was free and I needed a bumper so there it is. I have been following both your and your son's thread. They are both just awesome. I think I am going to leave the stock headers on it since I am not going to keep the 3vz real long. Thanks for the suggestion tough. According to the blocks under it, it is indeed a 4 inch lift. The shifter hasn't been lengthened and it is a lot shorter than the one in my girlfriend's dad's 22re 5spd. As for plans hmmm well whenever the 3vz goes I am going with a 1uz swap just to be different, I like a challenge. I will probably do a sas as well. Time and money will tell as I have a Cummins conversion ahead for my Dodge so the Yota is just going to be a driver for now, but I will mod it once the Dodge is done. Thanks for all the replies!

good looking truck!. That makes me miss my 90 Yota pickup. In 7 years of ownership, I never had a problem bigger than a dead battery. Had it not been for a careless driver that killed my truck, I'd probably still have it. Welcome to the club!

muddog have you been to Missouri recently? This truck hasn't been outside of the state for quite some time I don't think. I can promise you that bumper is one of a kind. I built it from scratch.
