Newbie with 4x4 problems

I am having the same problem
when I bought my 4runner I put it into 4 wheel drive I filled the Gators drop so I thought the 4 wheel drive work when I got it home I put it in 4 wheel drive and try to spen all 4 tires and noticed only one tire is spinning I swich
those two vacuum hoses by the fuse box and all my 4 wheel drive works good but everytime I want to use 4 wheel drive I have to open my hood and switch those hoses and I have no dash lights that indicate that I am in 4 wheel drive if you have any tips of what I can do to fix this problem please let me know thank you very much very very very very much ha haha

If you have vacuum down at the differential then it isn't the valve. It could be the diaphragm on the actuator or something is wrong with the shift fork. You could pull the actuator and shift it back and forth still connected to the vacuum lines and see if it shifts the fork. If you have manual hubs you can do the add delete and lock the shift fork in 4x4 all of the time.

I was doing a little research on that today wyoming9.
Going to pull my racks and box off the top to get through the garage door and inside and see what I can do. Still a little cold for me out there...I'm a Florida boy up here in the arctic.
Is that what you did to yours?
If so once that is done:
A. Will it always be in 4 wheel drive or will I still be able to switch between H2 and 4x4 using shifter and locking/unlocking hubs?
B. If not stuck having to be in 4x4 all the time will dash indicator still work?
If I accomplish this there won't be a need to mess with it when warmer.

You will still be able to use the shifter to engage the transfercase to use 4x4 and your hubs will disconnect your cv axels when you don't need 4x4 but your differential will always be engaged and I believe that will keep your dash light lit. You could unplug the electrical connector on the diff as that is what turns the light on if you don't want to see it all the time.
All the add does is connect the differential to the axles. With manual hubs it is redundant.

No the dash light is controlled by the position of the transfer case shifter in 4Hi and 4Low the light should still come on in 2wd it should in theory be off.
No I still have a working ADD system with locking hubs best of both worlds although if the ADD system failed most likely I would not fix it but who can say.

Well it looks like I am going to put this on the back burner until its a bit warmer, we were out all day yesterday so I didn't get to touch the truck however I fixed the no 4x4 issue in time for todays snow by trading my wife's 2010 Prius V with 81K miles for a 2011 6 cyl factory certified RAV4 4x4 with 37K miles. I personally was never a fan of the RAV4 in its earlier days. I always thought of it as one of those ugly little bubble cars. But this later model 5 door with the 6 cyl and 4x4 its not a bad vehicle for her, and I don't completely hate it either. I was a bit concerned as it is not a true 4x4 however I drove her to the train in Middletown this morning to test it and it handled the few inches of snow and wet slushy roads we got like they weren't even there.
Hopefully I'll get a day or 2 in the next few weeks to fix my runner. I missed it this morning as it is just fun to drive in the snow.

My 89 3.0 is giving me one problem after another!
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. My 89 3.0 stock is giving me the biggest headache i cant get it to smog and it idles funny once its warmed up and i put my foot on the break, another issue with it is i cant get it out of gear while i have the truck on. Any help would be very much appreciated

Got an update here...
This is definitely the epitome of the story of my life.
I went out today jumped in the truck fired it up and threw it into 4x4 for poops and giggles...low and behold green 4wd light fired up. Jumped out locked the hubs and tore off across my snow covered lawn to test it out. 4x4 worked like a champ.
Go Figure.
Got to be something intermittent or something froze up or got stuck.
I'll update again if it goes out again.

Going to make sure I drive it around in 4x4 every week from now on!!!

I did some testing last night. Drove to the store and around a bit.
When I first got back in it I started it up put it in 4x4 and no light again. Put back in H2 drove to end of driveway stopped put in park and back into 4x4 and light came on. Put back in 2wd drove to store and when I got back in started it up put in 4x4 no light. Drove several feet ahead in parking lot stopped put in 4x4 light came on. Got home turned off truck, started back up, put in 4x4 no light. Put in drive, drove forward a cpl of feet and put in 4x4 light came on.
Went a little further with testing and it is appearing that if I have the truck in drive rather than park or neutral and put it in 4x4 the light comes on. I tried that many times, it may be coincidence that it always came on in that configuration, I don't know. It is at least coming on now and that is progress.

You've got something sticky in your differential. It should engage with vacuum alone, but in your case you need to turn it a bit (with the front drive shaft once the transfer case is engaged) for it to drop in. Sort of like a manual transmission with worn synchronizers.
It might even get better (as you churn up that old gear oil), but it will probably get slowly worse. Short of disassembling the whole differential to clean it up and check for worn parts, I don't know what else to recommend.

Gear oil's not old, it was replaced around May and has maybe a couple of hundred miles on it tops.

I went through something almost identical a few weeks ago. It would only occasionally go into 4wd. I was going to do an ADD delete and put manual hubs on, while I was nosing around under the hood I found a loose vacuum line. It didn't go to any of the ADD components, but apparently it was loosing enough vacuum to keep it from engaging.
The weirdest part is that the truck was running much better with the vacuum line loose. Now it is a little hard to start, but the 4wd always works.

Funny thing for Blizzard 2015, I mean Bull Shizzard 2015 we got a whopping 1" to 2" if it was 3" thats pushing it. Today I had about 18" maybe 2' of snow to deal with.
Truck has been going in and out of 4x4 no issues so far. Cleaned her of first this morning and jumped in and went for a drive just to test her out, as she always had she handled nearly 2' of snow with out even blinking an eye.
Snow has stepped up a couple of gears this morning...really coming down now. We may have another foot by the end of the day if it keeps up. Cant wait to go for a spin in her after work.
Thanks for looking in on me. As long as she keeps going into 4x4 I don't plan on digging back in to the issue until its warm out. If she starts acting up a little I'll get it back into 4x4 and leave it there until spring. Only use it when necessary.
Hope you aren't getting what we have out there in PA. If so be careful...its real getting nasty out.
