you guyyysss...where the hell do i get new Accelerator pump?????..stealership can't get one??..im thinking a junkyard one is gonna be in just as bad a shape as mine is..since it's probably been sitting out in the weather..and therefore the rubber will be brittle...

so where to get a new Acc. Pump..or can i replace just the boot??

Try the junkyard anyways for the acc pump, you never know. I had the same problem, was going through fuel filters on a regular basis, then the fuel pump died, then my carburetor started running like crap, the culprit was a rusty gas tank. I say change the fuel filter, its quick, cheap, and easy anyways, and don't be afraid to go crazy with the carb cleaner either

i've been trying the junkyards..none have any acc. pumps for my truck..lol..they got em for older 1st gen 22r's..but they're vacuum operated..mines mechanical..lol

its not the pump..lol..although the tank is probably nasty..my 2 filters are new..and the problem persists..its the acc. pump..has to be..

at least it better be..LMAO

Hmm. Hopefully you can find one. And if you were thinking of a carb rebuild, I'll warn you it can be pretty time consuming and complicated with all the linkage on the back lol, but well worth it, my truck ran amazingly after I did mine

i believe that i could handle it..lol..if i have any problems then our mechanic can help me..he rebuilt the carb for my '80 and it came out great!..

all i gotta do is make sure i remember where everything goes..lmao..then put it all back together...but before that the carb body would get sent off to be cleaned..lol

heyy...that helps ALOT (with the pic and explanation..lol) i did unplug it..to see what would happen..but i didnt test it..and i didnt get around to testing it today..lol

i will test that in the morning and report back..in the meantime

if i spray carb cleaner (while the motor is running) around the back of the carb..it idles quite a bit smoother..but wont stay idling..it just seems kinda weird that CARB CLEANER would make the truck idle better???

specifically if i spray around the back of this little bugger..that i THINK is the Idle Up Diaphragm..
the little brass lookin thing with the vacuum line goin to it
and that's where it is located..(center of pic...again..the little brass thingy..lmao)

still can't find an accelerator pump...im gonna try the Carb rebuilder places..see if they can get me one..

Alright, you're kind of on the right track, but you're looking at the wrong items.

The carb cleaner will make it run better because it's taking the place of the air getting sucked in the vacuum leak.

Check this page out, it will answer all your questions:

http://www.bluebassdesign.com/boonin/carb_faq/

The better NAPA rebuild kits that take the carb tag # into account should come with a new AP, but I doubt that's really your problem. The boot is just a dust boot, and doesn't affect air or fuel.

I could tear one of these carbs down in my sleep, so post back with any further questions you have.

i think..by the time im done..the carb is gettin rebuilt..

not only do i have this problem..but if i FLOOR it..(like...suddenly from idle just FLOOR it...not gradually but IMMEDIATE) then the truck stumbles and will act funny..i cant really explain it..the DS choke will flutter back and forth..and the truck almost dies...i think it's flooding it...as in when i floor it then the truck is getting too much fuel...and my mechanic thinks that it's not getting enough fuel..LOL..

im going to mess with the mixture screw a little tomorrow too...as the cap thats supposed to be over it......isn't there anymore..so it's likely backed out a little bit and is causing the truck to run way rich...

one way i know it's runnin rich..is if i floor it..and it starts to bog down..i can let off and kinda 'pump' the pedal once and a little black smoke will come out of the exhaust..which is unburnt fuel..

so things to do tomorrow...check the fuel cut solenoid, and check the mixture..lol
