New Problem has shown its ugly face

ok guys..i was putting in a new stereo today (my old one crapped out..it was a jensen..lol) and i couldnt get the new one to work for reasons still unknown unless the headunit is bad (its a few years old) and while i was sitting there installing it i decided to start up the '86 pickup and it fired right up..idle'd just perfectly fine..about 5mins later i shut it off..fiddled with the stereo wires some more (just making sure the power wires and ground were good) and i fire the truck back up..and it wont start????..just cranks..well then i pumped the pedal a couple of times and she fired up

the problem is she won't idle??? i have to keep the rpms up above 1500 for it to run at all....if it falls below 1500rpms then it spits and sputters and dies.

nothing was done to the truck AT ALL..none of the wires were touched together and no fuses are blown??

i noticed a couple of drops dripping out from the acc. pump on the carb as i am keeping it running. but other than that everything is fine..

im guessing my tank is NASTY as i go through a fuel filters (actually i have 2 filters on the truck..lol)about every 3 or 4 months...i bought a new filter today but have yet to put it on because the ones that are on it are close to new and the pump shoots the fuel out if ya take the line off of it (that goes to the carb).

if anybody knows..tell me please, i need to get this thing runnin as i have college tomorrow

fuel pump seems to be pumpin pretty good..and if it was the fuel pump then it wouldnt do fine above 1500rpms?? i've always heard these manual fuel pumps dont KINDA go out..they either go out..or they're good..no maybe's

im thinking it might be the idle cut solenoid..so im gonna check that real quick..

not the idle cut solenoid..or the filters..

im thinking acc. pump???..since there is drops of fuel coming out of it..(only when running of course..and only if you give it throttle)

other than that..im out of ideas...

i thought the acc. pump was mechanically driven..i.e. driven by the throttle linkage?? and it's on the pass. fender side of the carb?..right..

and the aux. acc. pump is vacuum operated and its on the side of the carb closest to the valve cover

Isn't that the Aux. Acc. Pump???? (on side of the carb with the 3 screws holdin it on there)

And this is the Acc. Pump..which is mechanical and has no vaccum lines goin to it?? (in the center of the pic basically...)

even warm it does this...i just went out side and brought it up to operating temp. and it still done the problem...and it was worse????

when the motor is cold..it will idle..but barely...and very roughly..but when it gets warm..nope..aint happening..gotta keep it above 1500rpms..

this little bugger has a hole in the bottom of the body..and it looks like it might be threaded..like maybe a screw went there...

that last picture is just a pic of where that particular piece is located...i got a video..but my computer wont have anything to do with 3G2 files..

if i move the throttle any..then let off..a drop of gas will come out of the little hole.....everytime i do this..the gas drips out..so wtf is it..lol

i still say a rebuild of the carb will fix this..but my father says that it wont...that it's something simpler..

what gets me the most..is that this problem appeared in SECONDS..i literally had my truck idling for about a min or 2 tops..then i turned it off..and about 15seconds later i started it again..and it wouldn't idle at all......

*EDIT* pay no attention to the screws plugging the vacuum lines..lmao

ok so i figured a little something out..

i got the truck to idle...but it will only idle if the choke is partially closed???

if the choke is completely closed..then it wont idle..and if its completely opened..it wont idle..

and also it kinda stumbles a bit and runs kinda rough at the moment (when i am givin it a bit of gas to keep it running..it just kinda "burps") but if i spray some carb cleaner around the back of the carb....where the throttle linkage is..it runs BETTER?...it doesnt stumble at all..but a few seconds of running good..and its back to "burping"..lol or kinda coughing..lol

It sounds like a vacuum leak at the back of the carb. If it runs ok when you spray the cleaner at the rear of the carb, the cleaner is sealing the leak on a temporary basis. I would look really close at the vac. lines and base gasket back there and I think you will find the source of the problem.

well i just realized..theres supposed to be a rubber "boot" on the Acc. Pump....well it aint never had one on there..and i guess since that created a vacuum leak..and it blew the diaphragm in the acc pump..so im going to get a new acc. pump and the rebuild kit so i can get the diaphragm..and i figure while i got the kit...why not rebuild the carb..

so im gettin it sent off this coming week to get CLEANED..then im gonna reassemble the carb at the house
