I installed a new timing chain kit from engine builder on my freshly rebuilt 22re. In the process of putting the timing chain cover and oil pump back on I accidentally put the wrong bolt in the top oil pump bolt hole. Too long of course. I quickly figured this out because the bolt bottomed out against the tensioner and damaged the slipper on my new tensioner. I'm at my budget with this engine & don't really want to have to buy a new one if I don't have to. It damaged the slipper on the tensioner. I'm going to attach a picture to see what any of you think about it if it will be okay or not. Thank you for any input.

 

Rubber isn't cracked? Shaft not nicked/scratched/bent? No visible damage to the casing? Shaft slides in and out freely? Everybody will probably suggest that you replace it but if they were in your situation they'd probably all run it as is. If it were me I'd kick myself a bunch then run it.

 

Did you not see the picture I attached? The rubber slipper is cracked right where the shaft meets it. It moves as freely as it came out of the box. No bent shaft or nicks in it.

 

I saw the picture but I couldn't make out a crack, just what looks like a round chunk taken out by the end of the bolt.

 

I'll post a better picture. There is no chunk out by the bolt but by where the shaft enters the rubber slipper.

 

You obviously do not trust this part to do its intended job. GET A NEW ONE. While everything is still apart. you'll sleep sounder at night.

 

Sometimes it's too expensive to be cheap. Chalk this up to a lesson learned and I bet you will never do it again. That bolt gets a lot of people...

 

Well I have already bet on it since the motor is almost together. Haha. Do you all use any rtv on the heater hoses coming out the back of the timing cover?

You should have part of your timing cover gasket for the heater hoses.
