Smile New member wanting to know where to start

Hi ijust got my first truck. Its a 93 pickup 4x4 with a 22re and a 5 speed. I just want to know is it worth the money to try and get more power out of the 22re? And what is the best way to make it more offroad capable on a budget seeing as im still in school with little income. Right now its almost all stock with the exception of 31" tires. Any input would be awesome.

Howdy. Just simple TuneUp stuff for the motor, there's guys who get pretty good power, but it takes a lot of money. In stock form, its reliable, and nearly indestructible. For suspension, look up BJ spacers, zuk mod if you have a saggy butt, and locker in the rear. Otherwise, stock is best mix of daily driver and 4x4 capabilities. Search with Google, it'll turn up more results.

A cam is always a good way to get more out of your engine, but I'm really not the best person to talk to about which one. I've heard quite a bit of mentioning about a 261 cam. It doesn't sound like they cost a pile of money, but there's also other things you have to buy other than the cam itself.

Upgrading your intake and exhaust will help get more out of it too. Do a search and see if anything strikes your fancy.

Header, exhaust, cam is reasonably affordable and will add a little noticeable power.

As far as off road capability, lockers are going to make the most difference.

No need for lift, just wheel your 31s till they are toast and step up to 33x10.50s. They will fit without any lift.

That would be a great start and then you will know more about what you need or want to change in the future if you just wheel like that while in school.

Take off your sway bar for a little more flex up front. It's a free way to get just a touch more off road capability.
