New to me 88' 4runner
So my wife finds this on craigs list for 600$. Called the guy, it overheated and he didnt have the funds to fix it. Drove 2 hrs to look st it, and on roadside ( where it had been sitting for 9 months) put in a fresh battery and new thermastat. Fired right up and hasnt stopped since. That was October of 09'. it hasnt stopped since. So 600$ for the truck and about 100$ in parts. Id say i got a good deal.

There is a little rust around the slider window on cap, and a couple little rock dents but other wise the body is clean. Picked up a brush guard to go on it already. Thinking about a little lift. It has 31s under it now. And when all this snow melts i need to start looking into fabricating a bikini top. Would love to paint it, but cant afford to have someone do it nor do i have the tools/expertise to do it myself. Also, anyone know how hard it is to convert from manual to power locks/windows?

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
change that timing belt and water pump, NOW!
i bought an overheat and the belt was melted to the pulley and missing teeth. ran though...
Toyota timing belt ONLY! You can use a different WP if you want... Never use an aftermarket timing belt on anything!
Get a Toyota timing belt, tensioner and waterpump... if funds are tight you can skimp on the WP, but get the most expensive one they try to sell you, not the cheapest...
oh, and front main seal...

@ Zelephant: ehhh, some places are faded more then others and the cap has fiberglass showing. Im not a big fan of red to begin with. Was thinking more of a gloss midnight black.
@Tried 4x2: Yeah i hear you about the overheating. I had to replace the engine in my last yota ( again an 88' 4runner ) that i lost in a divorce...... due to an overheating issue. This one seem right tho, not hearing anything like i heard from the last one... not hearing anything really from the engine actually...
and when it overheated the kid parked it not wanting to damage it and not haveing the funds to fix it. ( was not mech. savy) thermastat isnt rocket science nor expensive... lol
