new head castings?
Hey all, I'm building a new motor for my 86 4runner. spun a rod bearing on the old one. can't complain, it had 250,000 on it, and had 298,000 the first time it was rebuilt. it was also in three different 4runners.
Any way the New shortblock is a core I've had for a while. machine work jas just been completed on it.
My question is has anyone ever used one of the New Head castings out there? was looking at the ones from ENGNBLDR complete with the RV cam.
and was thinking of going this route for the head instead of one of the old ones. have 3 or 4 heads at home, but they have all been surfaced several times. Just looking for some opinions. I've dealt with ENGNBLDR a number of times and everything has always been good.
Thanks
Rick

i wouldn't hesitate to run one. you can rest easy knowing that it hasn't been surfaced too thin or that it's corroded inside from electrolysis.
i heard that some of the first castings that came out years ago were poorly machined(e.g. cant install the distributor properly) but those are non-existent today. supposedly the castings EB sells(i believe made by topline) actuallly are beefed up in the area near the exhaust valve where some of the factory ones liked to crack if overheated.
