I have used Optima Batteries (Yellow & Red Top) and Diehard Platinum Batteries both in single and dual configurations in my truck, street rods and customs. I feel the Diehard Platinum has given me the best bang for the buck.

 

Dry cell tech over wet cell battery everyday. Thats what makes it the best. Ive had many diehards and they r ok but they r still a wet cell bettery Discharging and charging will play hell on a wet cell.

 

For the -40 comments, a wet cell will lose charge as the temp drops, and if it freezes it will crack and then be really buggered. A dry cell will not lose as much charge, and can not freeze.

 

I have been running Interstate Batteries I always get the top of the line in the case size to fit my vehicle.

The fact the local auto parts stocks them is a major selling point for me.

Being around 20 miles from East Penn Manufacturing (Deka Batteries) Plant over the years I have run quite a few of there 2nd batteries with out any problems.

The cost difference between the Gel batteries and the wet batteries for my use is not worth it yet.

I got a Optima Yellowtop.

Not many options in Yellowknife and that was the top battery every shop carried.


Hopefully it will do well for me. It's better that the battery with a hole in it. For $300 it had damn well better be a great battery.

 

gees. $300?? i only paid $200 for my die hard platinum. i watch what most expedition guys use and optima is not one of them. if you do a search on optima, you will find that they are not what they used to be. most of the auto stores around here, i have heard they warranty more optima batteries than anything else. no point in having a awesome warranty battery if your stranded due to a dead battery.

odyssey batteries are really nice but to save some $$ the die hard platinum is the same thing. got it at sears. i also got the version that has dual post, top and side. i use the side for my winch which is awesome. cleaner wiring set up imo. even with a $200 battery i still carry a potable jump back

 

Sears in Canada is not the same Sears. We don't have access to the good stuff.

Plus living near the arctic is awesome but a big downside is the limited availability of choice.

 

I've had the same Optima Red Top since 2003 -- enough said.
Optima batteries are "shippable" batteries because they have a gel inside instead of liquid.

 

i said they are not what they used to be. 2003 was when it was still good...

 

I've warrantied a ton of Red Top's in the last few years. I can't remember the last time I saw a Yellow Top warrantied. They are two totally different batteries. I'd agree that Odyssey's and Die Hard Platinum's are great batteries, but the Yellow Top is a good alternative too.

I bought an interstate and have had ZERO issues with it. I have an amp and subs running, tow kit, phone plugged in and Pandora streaming through the speakers and no problems at all. I usually work on it with this setup going. I have never killed it completely, but never had to jump it, I left my lights on all night and it still started!

 

Yea. Certain interstate batteries are awesome. Forgot which one but info can be found I google

 

have a redtop in the truck now, soon to be replaced with another redtop and sit near a yellowtop.
