New 4Runner = Need help identifying part under the hood

Hi All,

I was wondering if ya'll could help me out. I just bought this 4runner ('95 150,XXX, 3.slow, auto) and I had some questions about an odd part in the engine compartment. Please see the pictures below...

This guy, the small shiny fitting (upper left)

Possible hints:
- In neutral I am idling at 1100 - 1200rpm WARM but in drive a solid 800rpm
- Check engine light (71)... mechanic replaced EGR Valve and sensor, fyi those parts are absurdly expensive. Just got it back today - check engine light came back on as i was halfway back home.

Any ideas on what it is? Doesn't look normal to me.

Thanks for the help,
John

It's the low side Schrader Valve for the a/c. (It's missing the plastic cap) and has nothing to do with your code 71

x3 for the schrader valve.

take it back to the mechanic and tell him he didn't fix it

what motor do you have, would help to put that info in so people can help easier

He said it was the "3.Slow" aka 3VZE.
I agree that is a schrader valve. Just go to any local auto shop. They sell caps for those. while you're at it you might as well upgrade the fittings to the newer style fittings. It's really easy and only costs about $5.

Also yes, take it back to the mechanic. get your monies worth now before he says its too late.

whoops! my bad, was still half asleep haha.

Check the vac hoses to your vsv's and to the egr module itself, if there's a leak it might not be working properly. I would be surprised if the mechanic didn't check the hoses at least but you never know. The pipes for the egr system like to clog up too could be plugged up.

Alternatively you could search for a write up on removal of the egr system all together. depends if u need smog checks or not, some people advise against doing it others say go ahead, it's a never ending debate.

Here is a quote i did early into my build thread when I had tons of problems with all those vacuum hoses. This will show you where to route all your lines.

To everyone who has struggled or is struggling with the ton of vacuum hoses on your 3.0 motors this post is for you. Don't do the same mistake I did. Make sure all your lines are connected correctly!
this first picture below was given to me directly from the Toyota Dealership. so rest assured these are the correct locations:

This next picture is off another thread which I found most helpfulto finding out names to parts and a more detailed look at where some vacuum lines go.

Hope this post is helpful to those of you that need it.

After we routed all the lines correctly we vacuum tested the metal lines and found that one of the metal lines that travels under the intake plenum was clogged. So I just bypassed that line and connected one longer rubber hose and that fixed my problem. Dont remember what code I had though. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Mmmm.... that I dobt know hoe thr sizes go. I just took off one of my current hoses and clipped it from the middle(because it isnt stretched out there.) And took them a sample. Or take them obe of your sensors. That way they can fit it to your sensor. I did the first method though.

Lol that just happened last night unfortunately. Apparently I reached my bandwidth storage limit and photbucket corrupted all the image links I've ever used.... already deleted multiple pix and videosvto make room. And now I'm left at 92% full on storage. I'm just waiting on photobucket sraff to reply to my email and fix this problem. Itll be a few days guys. Sorry for the jacked up IMG codes.
