New 4Runner fender Flares(photos inside)

I agree. Slightly better though, only because they seem like they are a darker shade of black and might stay that way. Maybe because they are silicone and not rubber? Hard to tell from a photo.

Preventative. They don't seem to give a rip in Oregon. I eventually want to take my 4Runner up to Washington where all my family lives. I have not so fond memories of being harassed in high school, so I want to do something about it now.

my opinion....yup, they look OK....better than my conveyor belt booty-fab job i did....but i wasn't going for looks, just coverage....so for $48 spent on mine, your's look better for just a few bucks more......mine are quite pliable for those intimate moments with trees that i had 4wheeling.
i'd like a bit ore explanation on installation though.....looks like you pop-rivited the heck outta them.....i only used the bolts that were there.

Not bad looking! The few problems with Bushwacker flares is that they are plastic and break VERY easily especially in the cold. Also with Bushwackers, you have to run a rear factory bumper since they attach to them. What someone needs to do is make a Bushwacker style flare out of urethane like they have on the full size Chevy trucks. They will last longer, will not crack and you can paint them.

The fronts were more tricky since it doesn't have a good lip. I ended up using the metal tabs that the wheel well liners attach to. I cut the wheel well liner about an inch shorter and bent the metal tabs flat with the fender. The gave me a good surface to screw into every 5-6 inches.

I would say those are BETTER than the rusting fender promoting bushwackers that actually COVER the fender...
Besides, I wouldn't feel bad about rippin one of those off on the trail as opposed to a brand new set of bushwackers. The ONLY reason I have a set of bushwackers is 'cause they are second hand and I got a deal on them. I DO NOT like having them on at all...stupid WA laws...

lovetharunner: to keep the cops happy in Oregon you will need some mudflaps

Well, you did say comments/criticisms welcome. So, you got some snobs on YT. What's new???
Look just fine for the money spent. I mean, they are cheaply made and cheaply sold. They're not going to look as fancy as Bushwackers. But, damn.......those things are expensive. Screw that. Those do look better than some other universals I've seen. Be happy with what you got, man. To hell with the snobbery.

So I'm a snob because I gave him my honest opinion.. which he asked for..?
Or were you not referring to me..?

Scuba-don't worry about it. Anytime someone asks for an opinion they must be willing to take the good with the bad.
Pirate would have been much worse
lovetharunner: one thing I forgot about these flares with my '84 was that crap will still get caught in between the rubber and the lip of the fender...check them every now and then

I didn't use rivets... just self-tapping fasteners. The rears where easy since it has a good lip to attach to... just ran fasteners every 3-4 inches to keep it flush with the fender line.

Good call... I was thinking about running some sealant in between the flair and the body... but was afraid of damaging the paint. Any experience with this?

i like em.... i mean,.... i hate em.... but being an oregon boy myself i understand the fixit tickets get old.... nothin worse then having to put on crap that looks like crap that makes your rig look like crap and gets caught on crap that rips the crap off braking the crap and having to buy more of the crap again......
