New 22RE

I just installed a brand new motor on my 94 4x4 pick-up. I'm having trouble a distributor I bought, but I can't get it to line up. TDC, 5 degrees, rotor pointing up, slot lined up with bolt hole, but when it slides in either goes too far to either side, can it be defective. One other thing, got lost with some vacuum lines, need photos. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?

crank at 0, both intake and exhaust valves on #1 cylinder loose
distributor rotor at about 2 o'clock
insert distributor, rotor should rotate CCW to about 11 o'clock.

The gears are helical so the shaft turns as you put it in. I get the rotor to line up with the bracket that holds the plug. That gets me very close.

thanks I will try 2:00 on the rotor,I had been trying at 12:00 and when put timing light, it was past 12degrees, when installed at 11:00 and put timing light, would not reach 0degrees; also thanks for the pics, but I have EFI. all input is highly appreciated.

@yoterr- that's a 22r, not a 22re. no vacuum lines to the distributor on the 22re

2:00 is about where you want the rotor in the distributor before you insert it in the engine with the 22re. the rotor will rotate counter-clockwise when you put it in and should end up at about 11:00.
