Need To Replace Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

I have an 86 4Runner and the fuel gauge sending unit is bad, I found a sending unit from an 88 4x4 truck and was wondering if it will work in my 4Runner ?.

As long as the tanks are the same size/shape it should work.
