need help changing by woodruff key

have an 89 yota 4x4 and i need to change the woodruff key..the timing chain gear spun and cracked during 4x4...and went to the dealer to buy the key and it looks very different. the one on the truck is in an L shape from looking at the top of the crank. does anyone know what iam talking about..need help thanks..

im familur with a woodruff key on a old aircooled vw alternator, flat on one side and curved on the other, they sell them at osh. as for the toyota, havent had the experience yet.

mine was flat on one side, half moon on the other. L-shaped? maybe a piece sheared off, leaving a L-shape.

Sounds like the key was mangled when it sheared. They are usually half-moon shaped or rectangular.
