Need help with 86 4Runner EFI

My cousin has an 86 4Runner EFI automatic, its getting fuel and spark when trying to start it, but it won`t start, just cranks. he has been trying to figure it out for the past 2 days, anybody have any ideas what the problem might be or what he should check ?. I have an 85 carbed toyota so i don`t know much about toyota EFI stuff.

Thanks

Check the distributor cap for water or moisture.

Spark is a function of the computer also - bad computer can mean no spark, as the ECU generates the pulse...

Will it "run" on starter fluid?
What's the repair history - just start doing this?
How does he know it has fuel?

I just got through a huge ordeal with my 86 EFI truck. Has he changed the fuses? As simple as it sounds that is what got me. Everything was looking good, turning and trying to start but the EFI fuse popped which wouldn't let the truck start. I was about to give up on the truck but I checked the fuses one more time and sure enough, the fuse was blown. I put the new one in and she started right up, no problem.

Check the cold start timing switch. Do you know where that is?

Don't mess with the computer until you have absolutely no other options, though.

First thing I would do is see if the ECM would flash the ok code.

Well we figured out what the problem was today, the guy my cousin got the 4Runner from put what he thought was 4 gallons of gas in the tank, it turns out that he put 4 gallons of kerosene in the tank by mistake. after we figured this out and drained and flushed the fuel system it started up and ran real good. thanks for all the help.
