mystery tranny problem
i've got a 92 4runner and 6 months months ago the truck just stopped engaging into gear. i messed with the shift linkage, checked the pluggs on tranny, fluid level, just all the basics. nothing seemed out of order. disconected the drive shaft and put it in gear and output shaft would spin. put it back and no go. (that was a month ago) well i always jump in it a let it run for a few just to keep it going, then i put it in gear just for the hell of it but it dont move ever. well yesterday i did this and pushed the gas and i almost drove through the damn garage door!!!! it drives now....and im lost. any body have any theries....i was thinging there was a blockage in the tranny ( a month before it died i did a drain n fill and tranny filter) please feel free to offer your thoughts, im new to 4runners, i've always been a car guy, but i love my truck and want her to stay alive and driving

It could be anything from bad shift solenoids to a transmission that`s in need of a rebuild. The best thing to do is take it to a transmission shop and let them check it out.

try draining a little trans fluid and add a product called trans medic ,oreillys carries it.i changed fluid in a jimmy i had, and the trans wouldn't work right and stopped working for a while. i was told by a trans shop that if it is a problem with valves sticking in the valve body, it would help in a 100 mi or it wasn't going to help.mine took 150 mi but it line it and it worked great.
