Mystery oil pressure loss

Mystery oil pressure loss
Hey everyone, did my best to try and find a thread anywhere online that describes my issue but couldn’t find any info and thought I should just make an account to see if anyone else has had this issue.
here’s the situation, I got a ‘87 xtra cab with a 22r in it, it’s been running great, changed the oil about 1,500 miles ago, and decided to swap out the DLX gauge cluster for the SR5 with the tach and oil pressure gauge. Did my research beforehand of course to make sure I didn’t fry the cluster with the wrong sender (swapped out the idiot pressure switch for an oil pressure sender) hooked up a wire to the tach and everything was peachy for about 4 days. When I went to drive home from work I noticed my oil pressure was reading zero so I pulled over to check things under the hood. I checked the dipstick and still had plenty of oil, and I took off the oil cap on the valve cover to check for blow by which was good. Then I made sure the connector was seated properly and it appeared to be fine as well. I took the risk and decided to carefully drive home listening for any strange noises but the engine ran fine the whole time. Right now I’m thinking the gauge on the dash might be toast, but I don’t get how that could’ve happened after 4 days of running the correct sending unit. Anyone have any suggestions or leads to check before ripping out the gauge cluster I just put in and taking the whole thing apart?

Well, if it was working it’s obviously one of two things the sender or the gauge, I don’t think one fuse just runs that one gauge but I could be wrong.
When I did my SR5 cluster swap I got a used sender from another truck, did you get a used one or a new aftermarket?? I was combing over some threads that some users bought an aftermarket one and it was crap and fried the gauge….hoping that’s not the case. Here is a thread on testing the sending unit which will be the easiest check. I also was going to paste a thread on testing the oil pressure gauge but there are a bunch!!! If you just search the forums for “oil pressure gauge” there are a lot of results you can comb through
