My truck ran good this weekend

Left out of here for atlanta, loaded, gassed and lunched.

Out on 85 5th gear and on cruise @75. Gobs of power, I mean I'm running along in 5th, easily able to accelerate or decel with the skinny pedel and move thru traffic up and down the little hills too. I'm thinking Wow, this thing's making power!

EGT's were calm but a few deg on the high side at 1425, but it wasn't going higher.

Remembering a conversation we've had here about timing & EGT I pulled over and advanced the distributor as far as it would go. This is toothed so you can still set it to stock, that makes maximum about 25deg. Back on the highway.

Now it's 1385?F maxed out and running GOOD. I ran all the way Greenville to Atlanta in 5th gear, NEVER downshifted once. And that's totally new for this truck which would never have done that in the past. It was on cruise and never lost more than 1 mph under hills per the GPS.
I noticed it was floored a few times, but it pulled the hill without loosing speed = TORQUE.

Once down in Atl I hit traffic and had to weave and dodge thru. This thing accelerates like a bat out of he...
...and it pulls hard all the way to the rev limiter (which shows 6200 on my tach) This things a revin motor too, it seems to enjoy work above 3k, but much to my surprise it did well down lower too.
Up high, you've got 3000 rpm of powerband where it's a screamer and that's right to the rev limiter.

This truck has never run this good.

Had a nice run home tonight, AC blasting, nice and cool inside with gobs of power still to work with in 5th. Again, all the way in OD, even the couple times I had to slow down for slow traffic. I was really surprised by that, used to be 5th and anything south of 3krpm was not a place I wanted to be. Tonight? at one point we hit 60 (well out of powerband) we're pulling a small hill, traffic clears, accelerate and left the whole field behind me. I couldn't believe it.

Got 15.5mpg which is about 2-3 better than the norm. This running 75-80mph, 33x12s & 4.88s
eh, not great mileage, but I still have this new AFM to tune and get the Jacobs hooked back up. Might even go to the next tooth and crank in more timing.

Maybe a dyno day coming soon.

Whatcha think for a broomstick fix and a twist of it's neck?

Im sorry, I want to know what you did.

Im on the freeway, no power, running at 75 in fith around 3000rpm, burning a quarter tank of gas every half hour.
I hit a small hill and im doing 65, no more power, all the engine has.

Stock gearing and 30x9.5 tires.

Knocked the stuffing out of the cat and cranked the distributor.

Oh, and nearly everything possible to a 3.slow.
