Severe coolant leak on 1991 3.0 PU

Truck info:
1991 V6 3vze Xcab Pickup
150,000 miles

After sitting around all day waiting for my truck just to start up, I finally get it started and let it run for a couple of minutes and notice that it immediately started dripping coolant on the street.

I get under there and to try and see where it's coming from and this is what I see...

I snapped these pictures to see if any of you guys could diagnose the problem? Is the water pump on the driver sider of the truck? I can't find my Haynes manual anywhere and haven't a clue what this might be.

If you need more info please let me know, I MUST get this fixed! This god damn truck is going to make me fail my classes! Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coolant Leak

I'm haveing the same prob with my 89 4Runner 3.0 it's either the water pump or the idlerpully that has a water jacket under it, To fix you'll almost take the whole front of the motor off, I will replace the water pump timeing belt & the idlerpully. It will be some work but dont drive the way it is ,It will over heat an blow your head gasket. I was told it will take around 8 hours of work an under a couple hundred to fix if you do the work also find a (good used idlerpully) new idlerpully is $$$(if your lucky it might be the hose on the motor leaking or clamp loose. let us know

It's hard to tell with your pics, but is it leaking at your thermostat housing gasket? (where the bottom rad hose connects to the engine)

Vasser pumpen

Is your likely culprit. Like was mentioned before you'll have to take off the timing cover to get to it to see.

Hmm, I'm going to take a better look at it tommorow and see if I can pinpoint where the leak is actually coming from.

Here's whats strange. It only leaked that one time like that. I started it later on in the day and let it run for a couple of minutes just to double check and oddly enough it didn't leak a drop! Hmm, very strange. I put some more antifreeze in there and it seemed to be pretty full actually.

I have a similar leak in the same place. It has never leaked like that, in fact it doesn't seem to leak while driving or if it has been driven at all that day. It will start to leak if it hasn't been started at all in the morning and it sits in the sun in the driveway. It isn't my DD right now, so now I start it in the morning for a couple minutes and it hasn't hardly leaked at all. I hope it lasts one more week till I can get to do my WP/ TB.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost me to have this done in a shop? I don't really want to mess with the timing belt and would rather have an experienced mechanic do that. Anyone had it done before and how much did it run you?

so what happened, you drove somewhere, then you hear pouring liquid to see that it's coolant and now it hasnt leaked since?

Bumpin: Nah I hadn't driven it that whole morning, my starter has been giving me troubles and I got it started and let it run for a while and I got out to see that it was leaking after I turned it off. It just doesn't seem to leak constantly, only periodically.

I'm guessing that's the first time it's leaked because there hasn't been any puddles in front of my house besides that one. I don't think it leaks while I'm driving, only once the engine is stopped or started. It doesn't spew, it just drips like crazy. I never hear spewing or anything while I'm driving and my temps have been good.

i am having a leak from EXACT same area as your photos. It runs along the oil pan in exactly the same place as yours. It also does the intermittent thing, sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt, and its just a slow drip when it does. have you figured out what it is?

I'd almost guarantee it's your water pump. I had the same small leak for months until my WP BLEW OUT & I overheated the engine. Ultimately, it cost me blown HG & engine rebuild....DO NOT WAIT! Replace the WP now!
