I also have a felpro. Can't really tell you how it's preformed yet, because its at my grandpas house getting installed but I've only heard good things about felpro gaskets. So I would about it too much. Did it come with a warranty just in case?

OP, go with what you have and if it gives out in 20k miles you'll be able to put a Toyota OEM in in no time.

FYI, the NCTTORA FSMs are still hosted, they just took down the page with the links. It's still available through the Wayback archive here: http://web.archive.org/web/200807310...ttora.com/fsm/

Go there right now before you forget and download your FSM so that you have a local copy before Toyota figures out they're still accessible.

20k miles will see us until feb-March so that'll be fine. I'll have money to spend, including on a new second car as well.

Thanks. I wasn't thinking straight, else I'd have done that already. (my day job is the researcher at TorrentFreak, I live copyright notices) Thanks for reminding me of it.

As it is, after a good few hours, I only managed to get the lower intake back on the head, and the head on. This body lift is playing hell with my back (damaged in a rally crash in the mid-90s) but it'll be re-assembled tomorrow.
I also did some other maintenance while taking a break from back spasms, including cleaning the Cat, not only fully draining it, but cleaning the shield of dried on mud, and indeed the whole exhaust system is now about 20lb lighter without a thick layer of Georgia clay baked hard on it. Although having a ' cool unique terracotta exhaust' is a nice way to come back at the people going on about 'you need a high flow exhaust and a turbo man!'

ok, another quick Q
I broke something (typical!)
I *think* it's the temp sensor.
A pic can be found here http://db.tt/pY5s9HP3 (the left one)
It's front side, left of the head.

Is this the coolant temp sensor? Will the vehicle run without it (just no temp gauge, or does the computer need it to run? Thought I'd post this while I get everything else put on

Best bet is to go to a junkyard a pull one. That's not the sender for the gauge, that's the sender the ECU uses to control EFI and such. If you can't find one at a junkyard I know I have one you can have for a few bucks on top of shipping. I won't be home till the 16th though so I'd say scout out the junkyards.

thanks ARlindsay
however, as i've said, I can't go anywhere until this runs.
junkyards, or mail in parts are NOT an option.seriously, absolutely NOT even a consideration.

whats the part name? theres an advance 15 miles away. When I pulled it, it looked like a temp sensor.

I was incorrect. The sender on the right tells the computer what the engine temp is. The one on the left (broken) is the cold start injector switch. There is always supposed to be a finite amount of resitance from the sender. I don't know how the computer would handle there being no signal at all from the sender.

The part is called the "Cold Start Injector Time Switch."

The EGR VSV is the one that comes vertically out of the intake manifold and has two vacuum nipples on it, no electrical connectors.

It's not an EGR switch. It's the switch for the cold start injector. The cold start injector only fires to start the engine when the engine is cold. The EGR is vacuum operated.

So, everything back together right?
Not really.
As I went to fill it with coolant, it's dribbling out between the intake and the head.

Damn that sucks. The intake on the 22RE is the hardest part to put back together when the motor is in the frame. I feel like there are bolts on the bottom that are nearly impossible to reach. That combined with a thousand vacuum lines makes it a pain.

Did you ever sort out that sensor? I found the one off my 89 parts motor. Here are pictures. Part #89462 20040.
