Are my rotors correct/usable?

I have already acquired the larger M/C and booster needed for the V6 upgrade, but I feel a discrepancy coming around the corner...

So I have set of rotors that I never had a chance to put onto my truck, but just pulled them out of storage because it's time for a brake job. Up until now, I've been able to keep things ok by swapping out pads, but now that it's time for the rotors to be replaced, I've been thinking about the popular V6 upgrade.

YES I HAVE SEARCHED!!!

But I feel like I have the wrong product...

The rotors that I have were purchased for 1988 Toyota 4runner 22re. They are however, the vented rotors which I feel have been reserved for the V6 equipped vehicles. Was there a certain year that the 4-cylinders moved to the vented rotors? I am certain the old rotors (still on the truck) and the rotors I pulled out of storage are both vented (not slotted or drilled) rather than the solid, single thickness rotor found on earlier trucks...

Numerous suppliers online fail to provide a thickness of the V6 rotor, otherwise I could use their measurement specs to compare to mine. I really want to ask "how different are all of the rotors?" but I know I would get bombarded with flak, so I'm hoping instead to learn if there were different types of of vented rotors that perhaps would have been used, or if the vented I have will be sufficient.

I know I need to really crawl under and inspect the calipers too, because for all I know, they could be non-stock (I'm going to look for the piston size as well as a casting number.)

I'll post what I can find out as well.

Thanks!

-Chris

4 cyl rotors for a 22RE are not V6 rotors.

I just did the brakes and rotors on my 93, and my stock 4 cylinder front rotors are vented.

true wabbit, since later model 4cyls got the "v6" brake system as well.

If he searches v6 brake upgrade, I am sure he will figure it out though.

from the T100 swap in my garage post, specs were found on NapaOnline.com

4 cyl '88 4runner:
# of Bolt Holes:6
Bolt Circle Diameter:5"
Diameter:11.375"
Height:2.535"
Maximum Lateral Runout:.004"
Thickness When New:.79"
Discard Thickness:.709"
Vented / Solid:Vented
Center Hole Diameter:3.942"

here are the T-100 rotor specs:
# of Bolt Holes:6
Bolt Circle Diameter:5"
Diameter:11.41"
Height:2.59"
Maximum Lateral Runout:.004"
Thickness When New:.985"
Discard Thickness:.905"
Vented / Solid:Vented
Center Hole Diameter:3.942"

and here's what happens when you try to use V6 calipers with 4 cyl rotors

I could be completely wrong, but my understanding is that 89+ Toyota trucks (but not sure about 86-89 22RE) using 4cyl have all the V6 Brake Upgrades (Dual Diaphragm Brake Booster, Larger MC, vented rotors) except 4 Piston Calipers.

The reason is that I was going to upgrade the MC/Brakebooster on my 4cyl and noticed that I already had them in my 1990 Pickup and all I needed was V6 Calipers.

Gotcha Waskilly. In my rabid sorting through the the numerous and probably quite redundant posts/threads regarding the V6 caliper upgrade, I really ending up lost in my understanding of the 4 cyl. rotors and the V6 rotors. There were solids, then vented, then larger vented. Just trying to avoid buying more parts I don't need when I've got usable ones sitting here. Thanks for the help, I know it like flogging a dead horse!
