My new truck- Pics Added (56K-Go Away)
So, hello. I'm new to the site and new to Yota's. I just purchased a 1995 v6 xtra cab pickup w/ 99,000 miles off of ebay. I paid way too much money but the truck was exactly what I wanted so it was worth it to me and obviously a few other people thought so too. I'm selling my '01 Frontier to come to the darkside.
The truck supposedly has 11" of lift. Around 7" of SL and 4" of BL. It's running on 37" SSR TSL's. It's a manual and I'm not sure if it's been geared but I imagine with those tires it has to have been. I'll see it in person for the first time later this week so I'll know better then. It has dual shocks all the way around and it looks really clean. I'm having an issue figuring out how to relocate the rear bumper for the BL because the PO left it and it looks silly. Also, I need to add a hitch so I need to figure out how to do all of that.
I've read a bit on this site and I've found lots of the FAQ's but I'm sure I'll have lots of questions once I actually have the truck but I'm looking forward to the experience. Anyone that has any advice or suggestions or just general comments, please send them my way. Maybe I'll see some of you on the trails one day .

looks very clean, i would worry about ur cv angles tho, that may be more tire than they are up to. and lockers will be ur best friend in that, selectable that is.

Also, I think the guy was young so it's not really built for wheeling. I don't know a whole lot about this stuff so your advice is appreciated. He claims both lifts were profesionally installed and it has an oil filter with some hoses coming out of it inside the driver side wheel well. I guess I should know what that thing is huh? So what is it? I think I'll end up with some smaller tires on this thing before it's all said and done.

How would I know if the tires are stressing the CV's? I have to drive this thing 175 miles home once I pick it up so hopefully it's been geared or else it's going to be a long trip...

they are, lol over 35 is over their limit basically, just keep ur right foot out of it when turning or in ruts on the trails. yeah thats going to be fun if it isnt regeared and that would be a wise first investment if it isnt.

So how would I go about upgrading my cv's to work with the 37's? I'm thinking 35's once these tires are shot. Also, if it's not geared that will definitely be the first thing done but I don't even know where to begin and unfortunately I burned up all my dough on buying the truck. At least till I can save up some more.

u really cant do much for the cv's, a soild front axle would be the best bet, i gave my last truck hell day in and day out with 33's had more problems with my dif's than my cv's i think 35's will be fine, dont get on it to hard on the trails and u will be fine

I think that guy you're buying from may be a little off.....judging by the picture that looks like any other 3rd gen pickup I have seen with a 4" bracket lift and 3" body lift, which is fine and would easily fit 37's.
If it really does have a 7" suspension lift and 4" body lift it would be totally custom and highly questionable as to whether it was done right....which I would say "NO", because already a 4" body lift would just be totally stupid.

I think you are right about the amount of lift. It doesn't look like near that much lift. Is the lift you described going to cause me any problems?
I'm looking at the Marlin Crawler bumper for the rear if they offer one that i can use to tow with. Although, I might be able to relocate the stock bumper and just use a factory tow hitch if it doesn't have too much lift.

I thought the biggest body lifts made for these truck was 3" and I have never seen an IFS bracket lift larger than 4". I could be wrong but I think you're sporting 7 inches of lift. Maybe he included how much taller the truck was with the tire size. Looks good, get rid of the sticker. I'd probably sell those tires and ditch the body lift and run 33's or 35's with some sheetmetal mods.

Yes, I'm not really sure what's going on with it until I see it. Things like why he's running a dual shock setup with IFS and such. It won't be a daily driver but I will take it on some trips sometimes and I'll need it to tow my motorcycle to the track plus I definitely want to get it on some trails.
Can anyone point me to a good thread on gearing with 5.29's for my truck. Something like a how to.

Well I just found out the truck has not been geared so I'll probably have to ditch the wheels and tires for something much smaller until I can afford to have it geared. Should I go 4.88 or 5.29? I'll be towing sometimes and would like to be able to cruise around 70-75.

Welcome to YT! Dont think of joining us as the darkside, we are equal's with Nissan. Toyota just has more 4X4 experiance.
As for the truck. all you need to do is remove the window sticker, replace the bumper if you dont want it and the hitch set-up is an easy install. As for the lift's you can either go through a lot of hassle and remove them or just be ready to replace things sooner due to angles.
That's one sweet ride! I would go with the 5.29 ratio personally.
Congrats on the buy.
