If i had fancy tools like a impact wrench this would be no problem, but im poor and using half new, half hand me down tools lol

I may see if my dad has one though, i know he has a compressor, but i dunno how many air tools he has since he got it for painting.

Go get some tube/pipe/etc. and slide it over the breaker bar. 'Bout 4 ft should do the trick.

Now that the realities of wrenching with cheap hand tools have kicked in, how are you feeling about this beefed up v-6 twin turbo idea? I apologize in advance for any negativity, but you don't sound ready to overhaul an engine, tool wise anyway.

I think you need to hit Sears and buy a basic Craftsman set. They usually have a reasonably priced 120-130 piece set that will have 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sockets and ratchets, as well as wrenches and screwdrivers, etc. From the sounds of your first few posts, you need one. You will be spending plenty of money anyway, based on your build plans, so get some decent handtools sooner rather than later.

well, this project is no more sadly.

I no longer own the truck, but instead own a '88 Supra turbo in fair shape, i did a straight trade for it. It has a different color hood and cracked windshield (from hail), but it has a MASSIVE Greddy intercooler, metal HG with ARP studs, and Im still trying to figure out if the exhaust is stock lol. It needs registration and inspection, but im gonna get that done by next week.

I am selling the 3.8 to a guy in its present torn down state for $150 (thats a $120 profit for the not so math inclined among us)

Im sure gonna miss that little truck though, I plan on saving up and buying a 4wd pickup in a year or so, hopefully I can find a little black one like I had lol

my long term goal for this car is 600-700 at the wheels, which is a relaistic goal for the 7M, but im getting another daily driver before i go that far down the road. my short term goal is 300-350, which i should be able to attain with the mods i have (hardpiping, 24x13x3 IC), plus a little more boost and the MAFT-pro setup, and a new exhaust.

I dunno how reliable a 6-700whp 3.8 would be... i'm looking to swap a 3.4 and make 3-400rwhp reliably.... 6-700whp with a 7m is pushing it as well... theyre reliable around 400 then cost goes up ALOT if you want to keep reliability... i dont see why you want to spend so much making a 3.8 handle the power where you can get a supercharged 302 that will be way more reliable....

well as it said a few posts back, Im dropping the 3.8 project as i no longer own the truck.

the 7M-GTE can handle to around 450-500 on stock internals, assuming that they are in good shape. forged pistons and rods, ARP bolts throughout, clevite bearings, and a little valve work and you can see upwards of 600 HP on a street legal car. 700 is starting to push it, but still a mark that several people have gotten to before.
