im in australia, and it is definatly not a turbo diesel its just a simple 2.8 it needs a turbo like no tomorow, but i really cant afford to buy one, then a new exhaust system and everything else :-/

i have a question tho guys, my truck has a snorkel on it and its a big old thing, but just after the intake at the top is a big metal ring that has a really tiny hole in it, about 1inch diameter, could this be choking my engine of air ? becuase i thought its size was a bit off for the air demand of a 2.8, i had thought about making it bigger but im not sure if it would change the frequency of the intake and give even less power

could you take a picture? if you think it may be a culprit, try driving with it off.

yeah i can get a picture, but it'll have to wait until tomorow as its night here, and yeah good point, ill have to give it a go and see if it makes a difference and also my truck gives out a fair amount of black smoke, not a huge amount, but a bit when under full throttle and heavy load, is that just what it does or is it unburnt fuel ?

Alright, i took the metal ring off my snorkle and it didnt seem to do anything, there is a very very small increase in throttle response/power but its nothing much so now im pretty much out of ideas :-/

I have a potential head gasket problem in my 92 hilux. When I bought it had heavy 33" boggers on it and had trouble turning them. couldn't go faster than 85 km on highway. put lighter all season 31" tires and it helped a lot. Hoping a new head gasket will help even more. Try getting a compression test and a leak down test and that could help determine head gasket problems.
