Is my engine dieing ?

Hi, i took my 1993 hilux out offorading today at landcruiser park and the 1st thing i noticed is that its hopeless.
it has an impressive lack of power, and its a 2.8D.
it was getting its ass kicked but a hyundi santa fe both on road and offroad, and the hyundi had no low range, road tires, no lift kit, and an auto gearbox 100% stock with a 2.2D 4 cylinder, so why does my hilux engine suck so bad ?
and is there any way other than a turbo to get more power out of it?
it was just depressing watching my car fail up every single hill, even in low range 1st gear, and a stock hyundi could do it with ease

i would do a compretion test on the motor you should be 130 to 150 evenly across
a cyls .. other than that do you have a stock clutch if so that could very well be all
it needs something with a little more grab and have the flywheel turned a night an day diferance for few hundred bucks .

Turning a flywheel is a waste of money,it cost 60$.I bought a new one for 115$.Why would anyone remove metal from a moving part on purpose to save 55$..?I have seen them on the net for even cheaper then what I paid for mine.

you turn the fly wheel when replacing a clutch to remove hot spots and glazing from the surface. It gives the clutch a fresh surface to grab and holds better. Its the same reason why you resurface your rotors and drums.

I was quoted 60$ for turning flywheel.I didnt get ripped on it because I bought a new one and yes Ive seen new flywheels from 47$ to 300$ online.Which brings me back to my original comment, why pay 30$ to turn it if you can get a new one for 75$..?

air intake .. or exaust assuming you have good spark an comprestion ..

so your sure your problems came from lack of power and not lack of traction. I know my old 95 4runner had some problems with the vacuum lines for the ADD making me think 4WD was working when in fact is wasn't.
I know you said your where getting your butt kicked on the road. But that aside how does it feel, doesn't it feel how as compared to when you purchased it.

What's your compression like? Much blow by? Start simple. It was only built for 90 horse btw...
@Matt4Running - You pay 25-30 bucks to resurface a flywheel as a quality replacement is 10 times that. Cheap flywheels get smoked fast if you actually use the truck.

the 3L is a good motor but does no have allot of power. i think they were rated at 89hp and 135lbft of torque. a good flowing intake, exhaust and fuel timing will help allot. remember, the fuel pump is the best thing you can mod, it controls everything including timming.

93Hilux where are you from? or better said, what country are you in? I thought the D in your 2.8D stood for Diesel which in turn means Turbo Diesel correct? unless you are in a different country which is probably why you are calling it a Hilux.
