my door wont open from inside...tricky one

So a few months ago, my kid slammed the door and one of the plastic clip broke, so i could not open the door from the outside or even unlock/lock it
I got a new plastic clip but have no idea which piece of rod to attach the yellow clip to. after a few months of opening the door from the inside Now i cant open my door from the inside, i had to pull the door panel off and pull on that latch rod to open it...Any ideas to where the clip goes and how to adjust that rod to open the door

thanks..Ill take pics if that helps..

i know this is a picture of a honda but is the retainer you are talking about similar to the red item in this picture? if so, put the metal rod into the hole inside the retainer then 'clip' the hook part on the rod to hold it in place.

once you have done this, put the handle assembly into the door panel and screw it in place. viola!

pull the interior panel and look closely. the rod(s) are only so long and will only hook to certain things. I'm sure that with some pulling on rods and handles, you can figure it out.

Check to see the rod is bent. my latch rusted up and when I pulled the door apart and lubricated it with PB Blaster(or toyota rust buster) when I put it back together I could open it from the outside not the inside. finnaly bent the rod a little fixed the problem.
Hope this helps

Your rod is probebly bent. Just bend it to make it longer.

its pretty much the same as the one of the honda and if it dont open had this happen to me on the rear handle on the pass door(runners have two handles) and all i did was take the panel off and bent the rod untill it work the way i wanted it to the clip well take a look on the way the rods are ran and when you see a hole in the metal take your fingers and hold the rod that way and see if it makes it work better if so then that might just be where it goes sorry i just put the half doors on her today so not sure about pictures but if you need then i can take some
