My 3vze is aging.

My 89' is creeping up on the 300k mark and i can tell that my trusty 3.ohgodthisisslow is starting to wear out. Im starting to sping some oil leaks, its running rougher, and its even slower.
Im not exactly rich (as in barely employed college student living in a basement) so im trying to milk it as long as i can, but theres a point where im gonna have to swap it out.
A few questions.
How much did the swap run you?
How long did the work take? Alone or with help?
How much of a pain in the a$$?
Difficulty level? (I'm not a complete imbecile but I'm definitely a beginner)
What parts would i need besides the engine? I already know ill need a transfer case adapter.
Donor Vehicle or rebuilt engine?

What swap are you referring to? 3.4, 1/2uz, diesel, turbine, wankel? A lot of options out there..

1. About $1500.
2. 3 months mainly waiting on parts to come in.
3. Alone not counting Yotatech of course
4. Wiring was confusing at first. I didn't know what I was looking at lol after I figured out one wire I had all of the ones I needed wrote down within 1 hour. Plus a few after I got it running.
5. 1-10. Mechanical. If you've swapped a motor before then a 2. Electrical. I never wired a radio up before my swap. I'd say 4 (I caught on fast)
6. Complete engine with harness and all sensors. I'd say donor for this reason. Sensors add to the cost very fast.

Well, he said transfer adaptor..so I didn't know if he wanted a full engine swap, tranny swap/engine rebuild, etc, etc.

If you keeping your auto trans from the 3.0 why do you need a transfer case adapter like you mentioned at the top?

Most of this stuff isn't really set in stone. It's an engine swap. Cost is very dependent on what kind of deals you get. Who knows, it could cost you 1k up to about 3k. I would think it really takes more electrical knowledge than mechanical. The mechanical swap the engine into the engine bay part I heard is very easy when you start with a 3vz.

I was also thinking this route at one point. Then I realized there were 3rd gen 4Runners in my area with half the miles starting at around $4500 so I abandoned the whole swap idea.

The biggest variable is the state of the donor vehicle and the cost. You might have to rebuild your own engine before swapping, adding a lot to the final price.

That's very true. I bought my donor from an individual who's son fell asleep at the wheel. Walked away from the wreck though. Insurance said it was a total loss. Guy was asking like 2500 for it, told him all I needed was the engine, the rest was junk, he took 1100. It sat wrecked a few day before I got it.
