My 22R died and I need some advice UPDATES!!

hey all, so I was on my way to work today when outta nowhere my truck started knocking, then seconds later had a huge hole in the side of the block. Yes, I said a hole in the BLOCK. So I left her in a wendys parking lot and proceeded to work, I just barely got her towed home. So now Im wondering about my options, and how much they will cost. I found a 22r head locally for 30$, Im thinking thats a good starting point. I will probably pull my motor this weekend or next and see what is still usable. I will get some pics up tomorrow. What would you guys do?

Well you kinda dont have a choice...you need a new block, find a used block, have it machined, and get the engnbuilder rebuilt kit and get to work!!! I doubt anything is wrong with your cylinder head

I paid $2200 to have my engine removed/rebuilt/reinstalled, which is a really good deal, and it has a warranty. I dont know what your monetary status is, but at the time I had the money and it was worth it!

wunbigtacoma, pm me some prices and maybe we can work something out. From what I understand, the 22r is a pretty simple motor to work on, so I am pretty confident me and my buddy could do it.

Yeah at least its not the 3.0, I dont even like looking in those engine bays, they are so packed!

I would have done mine myself, but I only have a one car garage, and the toyota doesnt fit in it!

Mind the core fee, though.

It is mentioned in the eBay auction but the amount is not detailed. Since you have a hole in the side, you do not have a "rebuildable core" and the core fee is basically added to the purchase price.

updates

hey all, figured it was time for an update, progress has been slow, but hey its progress. Ended up picking up a newly machined block bored .60 with new pistons and rods, took my head to the shop ( ended up it was warped) bought a new clutch and got a ton of goodies from engnbldr ( gasket kit, oil pump, water pump, timing kit with new timing cover). The new motor is just about put together and thrown in on Monday. Well, onto the pics:

Lookin' good man. Did you get just the plain head or the one with the valves etc...in it?

Do you have a build thread?

You have one of those "don't walk there" garages like me......."I" know where everything is at and that's all that matters.

I ended up re using my head and just having the shop straighten it. its not my garage, but I agree, as long as we know where everything else, who cares ha

x2 plus you at least have the pride that you did it yourself and now you know your engine better than anyone else

awhh..you should have gotten the EB 268* cam...it's only $100 dude!!!! and it would be well worth it!..that..plus the bore...plus the header..add in a weber carb (32/36,34/34,38..whatever you want) and you would be golden...lol..MUCHO POWA FROM THA 22R!!! hahaha

or at least you'dbe lookin at a little it of a gain from stock...prob more like 100hp..maybe 105 on a good tune?..of ourse you could have a freak motor and get 120hp..lmfao..doubtful though

I would have loved to get a cam as well, but my budget is GONE haha this build is costing a lot more than I anticipated. I am so excited to fire her up and be able to drive to school again, riding my bike in 40 degree weather to school every morning blows. I sandblasted the oil pan and valve cover and painted em lime green just to be different ha ill throw some pics on later
