I've had a Magnaflow on my 88, it sounded good, not too loud. I also had a cheap cherry bomb on my 88, and it sounded very similar. Like I said, most exhaust out there are going to sound the same unless you start getting into $$ brands or exotic exhaust (ex: my custom exhaust which was also $$). $1k in my exhaust, and I'm finally happy with how it sounds...most people wont spend that much. Boosted and nitrous also makes a motor sound alot different :smirk:

I only give you a harsh time because I had the same exact setup as you and I thought it sounded like a mail truck with a huge exhaust leak. aka garbage.

Lol i loved the way my truck sounded when the muffler and tip was off.
Exhaust exited about 3 feet behind the cat, right before the axle..

ok well how much different would my exhaust sound if i took off my cat and put a 8" glasspack in its place?? i currently have 2.5" in/out magnaflow cat and a cherry bomb extreme muffler. im hoping to make it really loud but still keep the deeper tone it currently has.

I have a custom exhaust using an oval Magnaflow muffler and no cat. Personally I think it sounds "okay". It was quiet as stock when the cat was still installed, but it got a hell of a lot louder when I took that out.

I don't think you will ever make a 3.0 sound that good, it will sure as hell never sound like a V8

What he said. It's not a hotrod engine, never will be, why try. If you drive it daily, trust me the loudness gets old quick. IF it's just a mud truck or woods truck, then whenever it falls off, who cares. Throw it in the dumpster. I still prefer stock. When I bought my 4runner, the exhaust pipes were so rusted and full of holes, it was all still there but may as well have not been, because none of the exhaust actually made it to the tailpipe. (not to mention that it didn't run...) but anyways, When I replaced it, I spent the $170 on a new Toyota pipe and muffler, everything from the cat to the tip. Nice and quiet. Maybe I'm just gettin old, but I drive this thing every day and the drone gets old quick.
