Mounting the roll bar

Mounting the roll bar
My truck didn't come stock with a roll bar. It's taken me a year to get ahold of one. I picked one up for $20. I'm pretty pleased.
I've heard that the roll bars are terrible for rusting the beds out.
I have a plastic bedliner. The roll bar doesn't quite fit with the bedliner in.
I'd like to keep my truck mostly rust free and I'd like to keep my bedliner.
Does anyone have a way to mount the roll bar in the bed and making it not so susceptible to rusting out the bed?

I'd say do a spray on bedliner. From what I've read the rustoleum bed liner is great when the surface has been prepped right. I think its around 8 bucks a can at autozone.
Then bolt the light bar in.
The previous owner on my truck cut the plastic bedliner where the light bar mounted and then put the light bar in. Left big gaps in the bedliner and when he put sandbags into the back they busted open. I got rust from nobody gettin the sand out.

Roll bars won't cause rust if you do things right.
If you have a plastic bedliner then you are doing more damage with it in...
Remove it, sell it. Spray on is the way to go!
Drill your holes for the roll bar, sand the surrounding area down and give it a few good coats of primer and paint..

That bedliner keeps snow and rain out of my truck bed.
I don't damage anything if I toss a diff in the back.
It makes things slide way easier.
But for the love of the roll bar, I might have to get rid of the bed liner.
I guess it's the same way as when you were a kid, just gotta learn to live without the plastic bed liner.

The rollbar wouln't make it rust as long as you seal all exposed metal during instalation. I would consider using some silicone sealent around the edges and inside cuts of the bed during instalation. Then afterwards hit the underneath of the bed where the rollbaris mounted with some bedliner to seal it up. As far as the rustoleum bedliner. I did mine about three months ago and I am pleased with it. I would use the brush on method though ( I tried the spray on my previous bed and I wasn't happy with it). You can buy a gallon of the rustoleum liner for 40.00 at autozone. Prep is essential. I basically wire wheeled the entire surface of the bed, washed out all dust and metla filings, primed it with a anti rust primer (make sure you allow the primer to dry completely!) then brushed on three coats of the bedliner. I brushed it rather rolled it to prevent the spray created when rolling. I also thnk it gives a better coat when brushed. Allow it dry and cure compeltely for at elast three days before putting anything in the back. I have had no problems with it, very happy with the cheap alternative to more expensive liners. Looks good too!

Plastic bedliners trap water inbetween itself and the bed. Then the plastic slides around and rubs the paint off of the bed. Rust city....
Drop it liners suck, they can never be as effective as spray on.. when done right of course

I just took my bed liner out. I've done this before just to see.
The bed looks brand new except for where the bedliner was on the bed floor.
The paint looks like it's just out of the factory, minus the dust.
I'll give it a give wash and wipe down, and snap some pics.
Roll bar needs some TLC.
Drill out old busted rivets, put in new rivets, sandblast, primer and paint.
I should have it all wrapped up tomorrow evening.
